Domestic Vehicle Transmissions

Domestic Vehicle Transmissions

A transmission uses variously sized gears to get the maximum benefit from the engines torque while letting it run at an appropriate speed. There are two types of transmissions in domestic cars and trucks: manual transmissions and automatic transmissions.

As Marshall Brain explains in his How Stuff Works article:

Cars need transmissions because of the physics of the gasoline engine. First, any engine has a “redline” – a maximum rpm value above which the engine cannot go without exploding. Second, engines have narrow rpm ranges where horsepower and torque are at their maximum. The transmissions allow the gear ratio between the engine and the drive wheels to change as the car speeds up and slows down. You shift gears so the engine can stay below the redline and near the rpm band of its best performance. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

At Denver Transmission, we repair all American made vehicles smaller than a Semi truck. We repair all domestic automatic and standard transmissions as well as import transmissions installed in domestic vehicles. We also build Severe Duty transmissions for all diesel trucks (with a warranty), hot rods, and race cars. We will complete a free inspection of your car, give you a full diagnosis of the problem, as well as rebuild transmissions should that be necessary. You will find one of the best warranties in town right here at the shop; our 2 year unlimited miles warranty comes standard on most transmissions. We try to build our transmissions better than the manufacturer did.

Manual and Automatic Transmissions

The difference between a car with a manual transmission and one with an automatic transmission is that the latter has no clutch pedal or gear shift. But both types of transmissions do the same thing, albeit in different ways. They let the engine operate in its narrow speed range while providing a wide range of output speeds.

Automatic Transmissions

We are an ASE certified shop specializing in automatic and manual transmissions. We service all domestic manufactured vehicles including:

  • Ford
  • Chevy
  • Dodge
  • GM
  • Chrysler

We have partners in OEM (original equipment manufacturer) dealerships that help us maintain the highest standard for each vehicle make and model. As part of our standard of quality, each member of our team regularly and consistently participates in continuing education courses to maintain the most current knowledge in transmission repair.

We use a combination of factory and aftermarket parts to ensure the best repair for your transmission. Our goal is to repair your transmission to like-new, or even better than new condition.

Manual Transmissions

We service all makes and models of manual transmissions including:

  • Front wheel drive (FWD)
  • All wheel drive (AWD)
  • Rear wheel drive (RWD)

We can also upgrade your transmission for racing and performance.

While transmissions perform a simple task, they are complicated pieces of machinery. When they require service or repair, you need a shop you can trust; Denver Transmission is a family-owned and operated business that has served thousands of satisfied customers since 1986.
